How to Have a Successful Launch… Even if it “Flops”
I just ran my first proper launch in my business… and no one signed up. Even with no sign-ups for this round of Serene Systems School, I still consider it a HUGE success. I grew my email list by about 33%, I created promotional content I’m super proud of, I maintained my mental & physical well-being, and I learned a TON! After supporting clients through launches that have totally flopped and/or sold out but cost the sanity/health/well-being of their teams and themselves, I was scared of running a launch that was as bad as some of my client’s horror stories. I’m proud to say that this was NOT the case with this launch, I was able to implement the successful strategies I’ve developed through supporting my client’s launches while trying out some new ideas that I plan to share with my clients moving forward. I’m dropping my top-tips for your below!
One - Get in Touch with Your “Why”
We all want to make money, right? We’re running businesses, not charities. But if your only reason for launching something is to make money, people can feel it. Take some time to figure out exactly what the offer will do for your community and why you feel passionate about this offer right now. Getting clear on your “why” will help you sell from a place of integrity and keep you motivated through the tough moments that come up throughout the process. For me, the why was giving business owners who are paralyzed by the chaos in their businesses a roadmap to creating calm, confident action through systems that work for them. I was excited about offering a course that would empower solopreneurs to create these results for themselves, instead of waiting for a budget that allows them to hire me to build it for them!
Two - Set Fun, Attainable, Process-Based Goals
I’m all about goal setting, but if you never reach your goals because they’re too lofty, externally motivated, or based on other people’s actions, they end up being a way for you to shame spiral into despair. Instead, I set goals that were fun to do, attainable, and based on the way I approached my work and showed up throughout the process. process. For me, these goals included, taking at least one day off per week throughout the launch cycle, creating content that I loved making & consuming, leaning on my team & support systems, not taking myself too seriously, and avoiding consuming other people’s content. One of my biggest fears when starting this launch was that I would run myself ragged, be completely miserable, and use gross sales tactics. By setting process-based goals, I was able to prove to myself that launching doesn’t have to be scary so I would be excited to do one again, and I AM!
Three - Focus on Connection
There’s nothing worse than getting a DM from someone that you know is about to turn into a sales pitch, but we know that personal connection is the way to build trust and buy-in from our communities. Instead of using a templated script, and selling myself in the DM’s, I reached out to people who had actually engaged with my content and asked them questions that I truly wanted to know with the intention of connection. I’m freaking proud of myself for doing this, because this has always been difficult for me, and is something I plan to continue doing outside of my launches, because entrepreneurship can be so lonely, and I want to keep my connections with my community going no matter what season of business I’m in!
Four - Focus on Your Mindset & Energy
At the end of the day, the way you feel & think about yourself and your business are most important. Practicing holding belief in yourself and your business in both the busy and the slow seasons is what leads to lasting success. During this launch, I re-engaged with hypnotherapy which helped me get my mindset right throughout the process. Even though I didn’t sell any spots, I was able to stay connected to my belief and pride I have about this offer and I’m excited to sell out the course next time!
Five - Reward Yourself Anyway
Giving yourself a reward after hitting your process-based goals will help train your brain to continue showing up even if you “fail.” It can be really hard to re-launch after something flops, but by rewarding yourself anyway and focusing on your mindset you can keep the excitement and hope alive! For example, I was super excited for Serene Systems School because I knew I would get to go through the course for my own business! I’ve been in a season of chaos when it comes to my back-end systems and I was super excited to have an extra push to update my systems along with this cohort. So I decided to run the course anyway for myself, my new team member, and my girlfriend. Plus, I got myself some nice new clothes as a bonus reward because I’m proud of how I did!
Maybe when I sell out my next launch I’ll have a different list of tips and tricks. But the tips above create a strong foundation to keep your sanity and motivation no matter how a launch goes. I cannot wait to implement the tips above for all the future launches I’m a part of, whether that’s my clients’ or my own!
